The St. Alphonsus Parish Pastoral Council
Pastoral Council Bio Information
My name is Tom Greenwood. I am married to Patti and have two children Ben and Caroline. My wife and I are both graduates of Upper Dublin High School and grew up in the area. We have been members of St. Alphonsus since our return to the area in 2001 and are active in our church and our community.
I have been a parishioner with St. Alphonsus for about 10 years. I’m a “cradle Catholic” whose faith formation outside of home was via CCD. I have two daughters, Madeleine, who is a junior at Upper Dublin HS, and Olivia, who is in her sophomore year at Shippensburg University.
I also am “mother” to Tess, a rescued Plott Hound, and Phoebe & Ellie, two guinea pigs. While I am a pharmacist by education, I currently work for Merck & Co. as a Senior Pharmacovigilance Specialist – that’s just scientist lingo for “drug safety”.
Outside of work, you’ll most likely find me somehow engaged in my younger daughter’s activity of Irish dance. Driving to lessons and to competitions keeps me busy. I’m also in the midst of learning the Irish language. As my daughters continue to grow up, I find that I now have time to participate more fully in our parish community – I’m very excited to be an active member of the council!
My wife Nancy joined the parish in 2009 and we currently have 4 of our 6 children enrolled in Our Lady of Mercy. My two oldest children (who are twins) are attending Mount St. Joseph and LaSalle College High School. I was raised in St. Albert the Great parish and graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in 1988. After Graduating from Villanova University in 1992 I went to work as a Golf Professional and I am currently the Head Golf Professional at North Hills Country Club in Glenside. My Children are active in the Fuse youth program and St. Alphonsus CYO where I have been a volunteer basketball coach for the past 5 years. Mike is currently serving as the Council’s vice chair/secretary.
My husband, Lew and I have been in the parish for 28 years. He was enrolled in the first RCIA program here about 25 years ago and is a guitarist in the parish’s music group, Revelation. We have two grown sons who are married, and we are expecting our second grandchild. I have been involved in many different activities in the parish over the years, including Eucharistic Ministry, Lector, CCD (PREP) teacher, Pastoral Council, Worship Committee, Church Renovation Committee, and others. I am a former executive and now a consultant to companies who bid on and perform healthcare-related contracts with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Judy is currently serving as the Council’s chair.
I have been involved in the parish since I met my wife Mary Frances Schaefer (who was a lifelong member of St. Alphonsus) in 1988, we were married here in 1989 and had remained involved peripherally while we lived in St. Genevieve’s Parish, as my wife’s family remained parishioners at St. Alphonsus until we bought their house in 1999 when we officially joined the parish. I am the President of Harry W. Gaffney & Company, Inc. a privately owned company in business since 1922 involved with chemicals and ingredients as a manufacturers representative, importer and distributor. I have been there for 26 years.
We have four children, Robert 23, Austin 20, Aidan 16, Grace 15. My 4 children attended and graduated from St. Alphonsus School, over the years we have been involved with CYO participation in the coaching arena as well as fundraising and support. We have been actively attending the March for Life with the parish for many years. My wife and I also have been involved in activities of the parish. My four children were also past altar servers as well as trusted Sacristans at the church and I have and I have been involved in supporting their positions as Sacristan and servers.
My husband Albert and I and our two daughters Liz (25) and Madeline (22) have been parishioners since 1990 and have been involved in both school and parish activities. I’ve been involved with the Welcoming Committee, Pastoral Council, Pastoral Planning, Capital Campaigns, Auction Chair for the school and have volunteered on various committees. My business experience includes technology, strategic planning, marketing, business development, finance and project management all which can be used to support the Pastoral Council. My past parish experience can provide context and guidance to the new council and help it build a strong foundation for the future. Other experience includes serving as the Board Chair and Board member for Philadelphia Children’s Alliance, a private non-profit Child Advocacy Center, which provides forensic interviewing and victim support for sexually abused children.
I’ve been a St Alphonsus Parishioner since 1990. I currently serve as a teller and for four years as a volunteer tutor at St Alphonsus sister parish, Our Lady of Hope; assisted in Church maintenance day. I’ve always been peripherally involved with Parish activities and now that I have more time
I want to participate more in the Parish and to help where possible. As a long time parishioner I’ve watched the many changes in the Catholic Church and the parishes and assumed that the Bishops and Cardinals were the advisors to the Holy See but always wondered how information was acquired locally before regular Parish decisions were decided. So as a regular Parishioner I want to be supportive of St. Alphonsus mission.
In 1962 after serving 6 months in the Navy Air Reserve I joined two others in a Manufacturer’s Representatives firm which we later split into three groups with my area being Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and New York. I continued that group until 2008 when I retired, turning the Company over to a long time employee, who continues today. Now with my wife Jean we expect to spend a time involved with St Alphonsus.
I have been a parishioner of St. Alphonsus Church since 1975 (with the exception of a few years spent in King of Prussia and Royersford). As a child, I attended St. Alphonsus School and graduated in 1989. While at St. Alphonsus, I worked at the Rectory and assisted at Mass as both a Sacristan and an Altar Server. I attended La Salle College High School (Class of 1993) and I am a 1997 graduate of Villanova University, which is where I met my wife, Megan. We have three children – our boys, AJ (14) and Ben (7) are currently enrolled in 8th and 2nd grades respectively at Our Lady of Mercy. Our daughter Abby (11), who has Down syndrome, attends 5th grade at Maple Glen Elementary School. I work in the retirement plan industry for Vanguard, where I have been for almost 18 years. I currently serve the parish community as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist.
Our family has been a part of St. Alphonsus for 34 years. We have enjoyed our parish community from the very beginning. Over this time, I have served as Co-Chair for the Capital Campaign of 2007, theHospitality Committee, Share the Word Bible Study, OLH Tutoring, Brandywine Prayer Service Group and I support Aid for Friends meal program. Our daughters are honor graduates of St. Alphonsus Elementary school, completing K through 8th grades. We were active in many school programs while the girls were in attendance, such as CYO and the auction.
